 Press Releases

  • EDG Coffee will serve their Specialty grade, ethically sourced, sustainable, small-batch roasted coffee at San Antonio's coffee fest to spread the love of great coffee and the love for their farmers in Nicaragua! Most people feel overwhelmed when they realize that the coffee they buy probably came from corrupt farms that take advantage of farmers. But EDG coffee, the newest coffee roaster in the greater Austin area, believes that making a difference doesn’t have to be overwhelming, because even small actions like the coffee we drink can make a big impact. From the time their farmers plant the seed to the moment it arrives in a home, EDG coffee ensures quality and prevents corruption. Their dream is to improve the lives of impoverished people everywhere coffee is grown, one 12 oz bag at a time.

EDG stands for Esperanza de Gloria (Hope of Glory), the name of the coffee farm in Jinotega, Nicaragua. It is located at 4,600 feet and produces specialty grade beans that rank in the top 3% in the world. EDG Coffee was created when the Hancock family, located in Dripping Springs, Texas realized that selling roasted coffee provided even greater benefits to the farmers and community than merely selling the beans. One of the sons in the Hancock family, David Hancock, was professionally trained to small-batch roast all coffee in-house through a unique process called a discovery roast.

EDG Coffee has built a strong unified team from the farm in Nicaragua to a small batch roastery in Dripping Springs, Texas to a devoted sales team that will share the amazing story all over the world! After a great deal of life altering events to help secure the farm, thorough education and training, Christie Morrow, VP of Sales, is now a certified quality coffee grader and sells EDG coffee and ensures the highest quality from the farm to the cup.  She facilitates curated coffee tasting experiences to build community at home developments and events where she demonstrates a pour-over, provides coffee tasting, and shares EDG coffee’s unique story.

EDG recently added a coffee subscription so that specialty coffee drinkers don’t have to search aisles and read labels to make sure they aren’t settling for poor quality and questionable sourcing. From the time the farmers plant the seed to the moment it reaches the buyer’s doorstep, EDG coffee ensures quality and prevents corruption, with a dream to improve the lives of impoverished people everywhere coffee is grown.

“Being a part of EDG coffee - from standing on the mountaintop in Nicaragua to sharing and selling excellent Specialty coffee - has changed my life in ways too fascinating to share in a few words.  We would need to sit down over a cup of EDG coffee to explain the education, growth, knowledge, built relationships and life-altering experiences that have rocked my world!” Christie said. "When you support EDG Coffee, just know that you are truly making a difference!".
