The Carpenters Shop/ Adult&Teen Challenge
Welcome to Adult and Teen Challenge Carpenter Shop!
The Carpenter’s Shop is a vocational training program offered to residents of the Adult & Teen Challenge program. The purpose of the shop is to provide an opportunity for our residents to learn valuable carpentry skills under the tutelage of a master carpenter, skills that could provide a means of income when they graduate the Adult & Teen Challenge program. Staff and residents of the program handcraft beautiful premium hardwood cutting boards, pizza peels, rolling pins, cheese boards, trivets, and more. Each board produced is tagged with a QR Code linking to a video of one of our residents, telling their story of overcoming addiction, finally finding joy and peace in sobriety.
We use only premium hardwoods, which are sustainably sourced in the USA. These woods include ash, cherry, rock maple, black walnut, and purpleheart. Our boards are constructed, glued, and sanded until smooth all by hand. The product is then inspected by the shop supervisor to ensure that the board sits flush on flat surfaces, and that there are no blemishes on the wood. Before being wrapped in raffia and tagged, each board is coated in food-grade mineral oil and allowed to dry overnight.
