Joe Asher is President of Sports Betting at IGT. Prior to joining IGT in 2021, he was the CEO of William Hill U.S. from 2012 April 2021, when the Company was sold to Caesars. Asher joined William Hill when it acquired Brandywine Bookmaking, a startup company that Asher created in 2008 under name Lucky’s Race & Sports Books.
Asher’s passion for the race and sports betting business spans decades. In his formative years Asher held management positions at several racetracks and was the Wilmington News-Journal’s thoroughbred racing handicapper for Delaware Park. He became the youngest track announcer in North America, calling races at Harrington, Foxboro, Brandywine and Dover Downs.
In 2021, Asher was inducted into the Sports Betting Hall of Fame and in 2023, President Biden appointed Asher Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the nation’s leading non-partisan policy forum for tackling global issues through independent research.
Asher is a graduate of the University of Delaware and the Delaware Law School of Widener University. He was admitted to the Bar of Delaware, served a judicial clerkship with the Supreme Court of Delaware and was an attorney with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Asher is active in the community, frequently speaks at gaming industry seminars, guest lectures on race and sports betting at leading law and business schools, and mentors the next generation of gaming leaders. Asher has testified on sports betting issues in state legislatures and has appeared on national TV programs such as CBS’s 60 Minutes, CNBC’s Power Lunch and FOX News’ Fox & Friends.
