Landis+Gyr Gridstream Connect
Meet Revelo

 Press Releases

  • Deploying approximately 1.7 million advanced electricity meters and 640,000 smart gas meter modules, National Grid will become the first utility to comprehensively install next generation smart metering technology. This enables sub-second data analysis, machine learning and edge decision making.

Cham, Switzerland – July 02, 2021 – Landis+Gyr Technology Inc., a subsidiary of Landis+Gyr Group AG (SIX: LAND), has signed a 20-year contract with National Grid for a state-of-the-art grid modernization project that is set to open the next wave of smart metering capabilities for utilities.

National Grid will be among the first to deploy Landis+Gyr’s Revelo® meter, the only residential meter to offer high-resolution sensing of streaming waveform data. The feature unlocks the potential to have real-time load disaggregation and decision making at the grid edge.

National Grid will deploy approximately 1.7 million advanced electricity meters and 640,000 smart gas meter modules across its Upstate New York service territory. Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream® Connect platform will provide networking, edge intelligence at meters and devices, enhanced access to energy usage information and grid analytics.

“National Grid will be one of the first utilities to take the next step toward future grid capabilities with this deployment,” said Prasanna Venkatesan, Landis+Gyr’s Executive Vice President of the Americas region. “With next generation metering capabilities, interoperable networking capabilities and leading-edge applications for consumers, this project will verify the potential grid edge intelligence brings to a cleaner and more resilient energy future.”

Additionally, National Grid plans to utilize interoperable network components that work seamlessly with the Gridstream Connect platform and extend options for building out routing infrastructure.

The next generation of smart grid technology is a game changer for customer control and convenience, enabling advanced meters to communicate over multiple networks, stream high-resolution data and use pattern recognition to make remote decision making possible for real-time management of residential solar, EV charging and other loads.

  • PSE&G will install 2.3 million smart meters over the next four years.

Cham, Switzerland – July 16, 2021 – Public Service Electric and Gas Co. (PSE&G) has today signed a 10-year agreement with Landis+Gyr Technology Inc., a subsidiary of Landis+Gyr Group AG (SIX: LAND) registered in the US, for the supply of 2.3 million advanced meters, network infrastructure, and associated software and services, which are all connected to the Landis+Gyr Gridstream® Connect AMI platform. This agreement is part of PSE&G’s advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) technology deployment to support the utility’s historic Clean Energy Future program in New Jersey.

In addition to advanced metering, the Landis+Gyr Gridstream network supports sensors for grid management, as well as consumer engagement technologies for electric and gas services.

“We’re excited to be supporting this rollout of AMI that will be a key part of PSE&G’s efforts to promote adoption of clean energy and electrification strategies,” said Prasanna Venkatesan, Landis+Gyr’s Executive Vice President of the Americas region.

Landis+Gyr’s AMI network will serve as a foundation for data delivery to help manage reliability and power quality, expand adoption of electric transportation, and provide more energy saving options for consumers.

As part of Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream Connect IoT platform, Gridstream AMI adds grid edge intelligence at every metering and network device to enable greater efficiency and automation for utilities and consumers.

  • The utility will install approximately 500K smart meters, a blended IP Gridstream® network solution and cloud-based software

ATLANTA, GA. – July 1, 2021 – Landis+Gyr Technology Inc., a subsidiary of Landis+Gyr Group AG (LAND.SW), and AES Ohio have reached agreement on a comprehensive grid modernization initiative driven by a utility IoT network and advanced metering solution that delivers grid management and enhanced customer engagement capabilities.

The utility will install approximately 500,000 smart meters and a Gridstream® Connect IoT platform using RF Mesh IP and cellular networks. Additionally, AES Ohio will utilize Landis+Gyr cloud services for system operating software, along with network management services and installation support. Cellular-enabled network devices and meters will be offered under turnkey contracts utilizing Landis+Gyr’s agreement with Vodafone Business IoT services to provide best fit coverage across the utility service area.

“AES Ohio is committed to personalizing our customer experience using transformative technologies. This project is a crucial component in the investments we continue to make in our distribution system and customer service to enhance resiliency and smart energy applications,” said Vice President, US Smart Grid and Ohio T&D Operations Kathy Storm at AES Ohio.

The utility IoT infrastructure being deployed enables the use of Landis+Gyr’s Revelo® metering platform in the future as AES Ohio's metering needs continue to evolve. Revelo provides high-resolution sensing and edge processing capabilities that extend beyond the grid edge. These features provide the utility with load disaggregation, anomaly detection and customer engagement tools that are only now being made available from a residential meter.

“AES Ohio is laying the foundation for the future of grid management and we are excited for the opportunity to be a part of this project,” said Prasanna Venkatesan, Executive Vice President of the Americas region at Landis+Gyr. “The network options available with Gridstream Connect, along with cloud services and deployment expertise are a big part of ensuring this investment will provide value well into the future.”

In 2020, Landis+Gyr extended its advanced metering deployment with AES Ohio’s sister utility, AES Indiana in Indianapolis, setting the groundwork for implementation of new energy management technologies.

Located in Dayton, OH, AES Ohio provides electric service to 527,000 customers across 24 counties in the southwestern Ohio.

  • The contract for 930,000 advanced electricity meters, 300,000 gas modules and corresponding software extends smart grid technology to residents of more than 90 counties in Kentucky.

Cham, Switzerland – August 23rd, 2021 – Landis+Gyr Technology Inc., a subsidiary of Landis+Gyr Group AG (SIX: LAND) signed a five-year agreement with Louisville Gas and Electric Company (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities Company (KU) to provide a comprehensive advanced metering and smart grid infrastructure.

The contract, which covers both operating utilities, includes 930,000 advanced electricity meters and 300,000 gas modules, in addition to network equipment and software. Both utilities will deploy Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream® Connect solution, which links the electric and gas advanced metering infrastructure endpoints to an IoT network capable of supporting a variety of intelligent devices for managing energy distribution systems.

“Installing this technology across our customer base has been a goal of ours for some time and we’re pleased full deployment of advanced metering infrastructure was approved in June by the Kentucky Public Service Commission,” said David Huff, Director of Advanced Meter Initiatives at LG&E and KU. “Once installed and operational, this technology will enhance the safe, reliable service we provide to our customers and will better enable them to save energy and money through access to their granular energy use.”

Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream network provides utilities with the information and access needed for planning, maintenance, and improving system reliability. Beyond energy consumption information, the network can interface with load management and analytics platforms to provide actionable intelligence for utility operations.

“Landis+Gyr is excited to be part of this grid modernization effort and we look forward to implementing technology that enables the goals that LG&E and KU have defined for the future of energy in Kentucky,” said Prasanna Venkatesan, Landis+Gyr’s Executive Vice President of the Americas region.
