    Product Sheet

  • The Tantalus Utility Network (TUNet)
The Tantalus Utility Network (TUNet®) is a Smart Grid platform that combines a hybrid communications network with applications that work to reduce utility operational cost, improve efficiencies, and customer service....

  • TUNet maximizes the benefits of grid modernization while minimizing the cost and complexity. The flexibility and scalability of the network lays the foundation for future migration, and lets utilities deploy Smart Grid capabilities at their own pace.

The core suite of TUNet applications includes outage management, power quality monitoring, remote meter reading (AMI), load management (DR) and grid optimization. Furthermore, TUNet is a platform designed to support emerging applications such as IoT-based edge computing, which will ultimately contribute to the Smart Grid of the future.

The TUNet Control Center (TCC™) functions as the command and control center for a utility. It is a high-performance, multi-application computer system that processes, routes and stores incoming data and issues outgoing commands within TUNet, as well as to third-party applications such as billing, CIS, GIS, OMS and MDM systems. Tantalus offers various sizes of network servers to meet the requirements of small, large and multi-commodity utilities.

TUNet products and applications adhere to strict industry standards and function seamlessly in extreme environmental and operational conditions. It is specifically designed as a practical and affordable solution to serve utilities with diverse service territories ranging from densely populated urban centers, high demand industrial areas, to tough, rural territories.

  • TUNet Insight
TUNet® Insight user interface allows utilities to monitor and control the Tantalus Utility Network (TUNet). TUNet Insight enables management of distribution networks, intelligent endpoints, and smart communication networks....

  • The TUNet® Control Center (TCC) is a high-performance, multi-application software suite that emphasizes at-a-glance analytics for pro-active and responsive users alike. Its role-based user interface focuses on key performance indicators (KPIs) essential to advanced meter infrastructure (AMI) management.

Built for full smart grid functionality, the TCC supports AMI, distribution automation (DA), demand response (DR) and remote functionality.

The TCC supports any combination of hosted or onsite virtual systems, and hardware appliances. The system can be scaled to meet the operational needs of single or multi-commodity enterprises, making the investment manageable for utilities of all sizes. Remote functionality, which allows technicians to configure and maintain meters, update device firmware, add softkeys and access other device-specific capabilities, delivers further reductions in operational costs. Billing-related functions, such as remote disconnect/reconnect and service limiting, make it possible to transfer costly truck roll tasks to CSRs at a fraction of the cost.

The TCC is a central repository for data collected from TUNet-enabled meters and network devices. The TCC also seamlessly bridges TUNet devices with back office applications, making it easy to integrate with third-party applications. Data is delivered using industry standards such as MultiSpeak and CMEP for hassle-free integration with applications such as MDM, OMS, Prepay and SCADA.

  • ERT Meter Promise
    The Tantalus ERT Meter Promise:
No Asset Left Behind, No Community Left in the Dark...

  • Public power and electric cooperative utilities face a tough mandate—embrace long-term digital transformation while still achieving near-term improvements in costs and service. It’s an even tougher mandate when you consider that they have to deal with aging infrastructure, resource constraints and escalating consumer expectations. More importantly, there’s a deeper question for utilities to consider—how can they select the right solution that ultimately supports the safety, prosperity and autonomy of the communities they serve?

    A Promising Solution—With One Catch

One way many utilities are addressing these challenges is to extend the life of their existing assets, such as encoder receiver transmitter (ERT®) drive-by automatic meter reading (AMR) systems by investing in smart grid technologies that transform their capabilities. But when you take a closer look, most vendors fall short. They fail to capture all of the critical data available from the existing ERT meters. They also require you to replace all of your existing ERTs with their own AMI modules before truly eliminating the need for drive-by readings. Worse yet, these vendors don’t share your priorities—those of public power and electric cooperative utilities. Find your way out of this catch-22—with Tantalus TUNet.®
