Substation clocks, Synchronization & Teleprotection testers

ALBEDO Telecom has pioneered many features and capabilities in field portable testers and network clocks for the electrical utility industry. Our measurement expertise is for protocols like C37.94, T1/E1, G.703, RS232, V.35, X.21, RS422, Ethernet plus Synchronization protocols such as 1588v2,SyncE, IRIG-B, NTP.  Our synchronization/timing expertise has resulted in a fault tolerant clock with built-in redundancy that can be deployed as either a substation clock or a telecom clock.

ALBEDO Telecom provides total support not only for today's utility network but also tomorrow's.

Brands: Net.Time: network timing/synchronization - GPS, PTP, PRP, NTP, IRIG-B, SyncE xGenius/Zeus: network & synchronization testing - C37.94, serial, T1, analog, PTP, SyncE, IRIG-B, NTP, GE, 10 GE, IEC 61850

 Products

  • Net.Time
Net.Time is a power utility clock that can be deployed as a substation clock or a telecom clock. GPS disruption mitigation has been designed into the clock – backup references or enhanced holdover operation mode can be used to mitigate GPS events....

  • The Net.Time clock has been designed to meet specific requirements of the electrical utility industry, regardless if the deployment is for substation timing, telecom timing or as a gateway between the two domains.  Many different input reference types can be used and converted to many different output types.  It is even possible to convert IRIG-B to PTP.

Not implementing new timing protocols yet?  Net.Time protects your capital investment becuase it can be configured to provide traditional timing outputs such as IRIG-B and NTP using GNSS as the input reference.  When the time comes to deploy new timing interfaces the options can be easily implemented by adding licenses to the unit.  If your network evolves into using PTP as a backup timing source delivered through the telecom network, Net.Time is ready and easy to provision for this.

Timing redundancy has been designed into Net.Time when using backup timing references.  If a higher tier reference becomes unavailable then Net.Time will switch to the next best reference source.  For example, GNSS can be the primary reference and if a GNSS outage or anomaly occurs then Net.Time can switch to a secondary reference such as 1588v2.

An enhanced holdover mode can be implemented to improve time of day holdover performance when the primary reference is lost.  A frequency reference is configured as a backup (such as SyncE, T1/E1, 1.544/2.048 MHz, 5/10 MHz) that is used to compensate for holdover drift.   The base oscillator is an OCXO with a Rubidium oscillator option available.

    Inputs:  GNSS, 1588v2, IRIG-B, SyncE, T1/E1, 1.544/2.048 MHz, 5/10 MHz, 1 PPS, ToD

    Outputs: 1588v2, NTP, IRIG-B, SyncE, T1/E1, 1.544/2.048 MHz, 5/10 MHz, 1 PPS, ToD

Parrallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) is natively supported for PTP and NTP

PTP Power Profile and Telecom Profiles are supported along with other PTP profiles.  It is possible to also convert between different PTP profiles, for example telecom profile in and power profile out.

  • xGenius
xGenius is the ultimate network tester for power utilities with coverage for legacy interfaces (C37.94, serial, T1, 4W analog), timing/synchronization testing for PTP, SyncE, IRIG-B, NTP and others, as well as Ethernet testing up to 10 GE....

  • Whether your utility is implementing digital substations, upgrading teleprotection to IP/MPLS or implementing new timing technologies, xGenius has features for your application.    Not introducing new technology yet but still need to replace obsolete legacy test sets?   xGenius protects your capital investment becuase it can be configured for your application today and easily upgraded later to support additional features as your network evolves.

As a network tester, xGenius covers measurements for serial interfaces (RS232, RS422, etc), C37.94, analog 4W, T1/E1 as well as Ethernet up to 10GE.  On top of these are capabilities for a number of important and critical measurements that go beyond basic network testing: one way delay and delay asymmetry, timing/synchrnoization measurement, 61850 GOOSE and SV analysis and latency measurement.

One way delay and delay asymmetry measurements are critical to verify the communications channel can meet the timing and asymmetry budgets for teleprotection circuits.  This is a bookended test with a test set at each end of the circuit disciplined with the same clock, usually using GNSS but ff GNSS is not convenient then an IRIG-B timing reference can be input into the units or GNSS holdover operation can be leveraged.

Time Error is the absolute time difference to UTC, measuring this indicates how well a clock or network is delivering time to various points in the network.  xGenius will compare the network time to UTC derived from GNSS or another timing input reference source.   Whether your network is using 1588v2/PTP, NTP or IRIG-B xGenius measures and verifies if your timing meets the required accuracy.

Wander is the drift of a clock over time with MTIE (maximum time interval error) measurement being a critical metric of clock stability.   Whether working with frequency standards like SyncE, 1.544/2.048 MHz, 5/10 MHz or phase/time standards like PTP or IRIG-B, xGenius measures the stability of your network timing.

  • Zeus
Zeus is a network tester configured specifically for electrical utilities. It has coverage for legacy interfaces (C37.94, serial, T1, 4W analog), timing/synchronization testing for PTP, SyncE, IRIG-B, NTP and others on top of Ethernet testing up to GbE....

  • The Zeus test set is a sister product to xGenius and may be more appropriate for substation applications, however compared with xGenius it comes preconfigured with GNSS, IRIG-B reference input/output, packet capture and 61850 analysis - some of the essentials for digital substation applications.  The packet interface on Zeus supports up to GbE rates.
