Kinectrics is your one-stop provider of smart grid related testing services. From flexible power and grid simulation to HC, HV, and consultancy services – we support almost any renewable power system integration....

  • Kinectrics’ world-renowned Transmission and Distribution expertise can provide supportive consultation to identify, analyze, and help resolve any issues if an inverter or medium voltage power system is functioning out of bounds during Type Testing.

The Kinectrics GridSim Power Laboratory is a state-of-the-art, independent facility in Toronto aimed at testing smart grid systems, renewable generation equipment, and medium voltage power systems over a wide range of voltages and frequencies, and at power levels up to 12 MVA.

The lab is able to perform testing to UL 1741, IEEE 1547.1, CSA C22.2. No. 107.1 and IEC 62109.

This capability suits the interests of global utilities, developers, original equipment manufacturers, and standards organizations to research, develop, test, and certify new technologies in support of safe renewable power integration with the grid.
  • Distribution Engineering and Consulting
Kinectrics offers expert consultation services and technical support on overhead and underground Distribution planning and operation practices for utilities to improve key industry performance indicators like safety, reliability, and economic efficiency....

  • To remain efficient, electric utilities need to optimize Distribution asset performance using modern planning, design, application and operation practices. Power quality, system losses and reliability must meet utility benchmarks while performance levels are maintained consistently within regulated operating and capital budgets.

To maximize plant utilization without overstressing components, problems have to be solved before they escalate. A safe working environment for employees must be maintained. Sound engineering principles are essential to gain optimal performance in the selection and application of Distribution equipment such as transformers, fuses, arresters, cables and accessories. Understanding and effective control of advanced equipment and technology and its subsequent benefits is also critical in the new utility reality of declining staff resources.

  • Protection and Control
Kinectrics can assist clients in this enterprise by offering state-of-the-art services that cover various interoperability tests, function and performance tests, and impact studies....

  • The Kinectrics Interoperability Lab offers full-scope testing and development services for Substation Automation Systems, EMS, and DMS systems to ensure seamless communications in power utilities. Our facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art test sets with full IEC 61850 capabilities Common Information Model (CIM) testing, background traffic simulation and protocol analysis, as well as a Real Time Digital Simulator™ (RTDS), with full GTNET option and software for GOOSE and message generation.

By working with an established independent company like Kinectrics, vendors and utilities can discover implementation issues in advance, thereby enabling them to avoid costly issues and problems during the integration, operation and maintenance phases.
