The small lightweight spheres of CellBlockEX are composed of non-crystalline glass granulates repurposed from recycled glass with tiny pores on the inside. The engineered formulation of grain sizes produces optimal fire suppression results, and can be adjusted for varied industrial applications. Since the granulate is 100% mineral based – it’s safe for you and the environment.

Drum plugs are best used as part of a kit. Use kit components as follows:

• CellBlock gloves provide protection from high heat and flame.
• FireShield Blanket can be used to approach and bundle a suspect battery for transfer to a dedicated emergency drum or can. The proprietary textiles are rated for temperatures over 1000ºC (1832°F).
• Drop the appropriately-sized drum plug into the containment can, covering the battery. In the presence of high heat CellBlockEX in the plug will disperse to extinguish and cool thermal events and uptake smoke and fumes.
• Close the lid and monitor for heat and smoke. Do not reopen for several hours.
• For a best practice solution, maintain a few inches of CellBlockEX in the bottom of the can to enhance heat absorption.

Components may be purchased separately or as a kit (gloves, blanket, drum plug).

CellBlock FCS steel drums represent a best-practice method for transporting used, spent, damaged and prototype batteries.

The unique characteristics of CellBlockEX reduces the probability of ignition of flammable vapors and the release of toxic fumes. When CellBlockEX is used as a packaging filler surrounding the batteries, the likelihood of fire, heat, or smoke being released from the drum is greatly diminished. CellBlock CellSafe Drums with CellBlockEX technology have earned a special permit from the DOT for the transportation of damaged or compromised lithium-ion batteries.

In addition to transport, these reusable containers may also be used for storage or emergency management.
