Hydro Tech Inc. is a worldwide provider of new or replacement bearings for existing generators, as well as new generators. Hydro Tech specializes in large bearing designs and upgrades of PTFE (PolyTetraFluoro-Ethylene) thrust bearing conversions for babbitt thrust bearings. 

Hydro Tech also engineers, designs, and manufactures babbitt bearings. This includes thrust bearings, guide bearings, and journal bearings. We can also perform rebabbitting services to meet any standard. 

Able to reduce operating temperatures, increase reliability, and increase thrust load capabilities, Hydro Tech has been 100% successful in all projects to date.

As we are able to retrofit within current thrust bearing pots, Hydro Tech’s PTFE and babbitt bearing conversions provide our customers with:

• Increased load capacity (unit plus hydraulic thrust) of at least 100% in most situations.
• Lowered friction and running temperatures; and increased durability of units.
• Prevention of failures during adverse operating conditions.

Water bearings are also a key product of Hydro Tech. We can design new water bearings, convert oil bearings to water bearings, or convert water bearings to oil bearings. Hydro Tech has experience with many different types of water bearing materials. Approximately 50% of our bearings are designed with Lignum Vitae material.

Bearing auxiliary systems such as High Pressure Oil Lift (HPOL) can also be designed, manufactured, and installed by Hydro Tech.

If only bearing parts are required, this can also be completed. Items such as runner plates or thrust springs are designed and manufactured on a continuous basis at Hydro Tech. 

Hydro Tech Inc. is experienced in providing complete overhauls and upgrades of all generator turbine components and auxiliary equipment. Turbine runners are also upgraded to create more efficient use of water, along with providing additional horsepower to create greater energy output. Our upgrades can include: refurbishing rotor poles; rewinding the stator; replacing the throat ring with a new, larger one to accommodate a larger turbine; engineering mechanical improvements; and completing all field and shop machining.

Hydro Tech Inc. can fulfill all your maintenance needs. This includes performing any mechanical or electrical maintenance, and predictive maintenance, to meet the operational needs of hydroelectric generators. Written procedures for maintenance programs can be provided.

Written procedures may range from regularly scheduled plant checks to adjusting bearings. After diagnosing a problem, Hydro Tech Inc. will either repair the machinery or provide a written procedure with instructions and diagrams showing how to complete the repair. Hydro Tech Inc. can also provide a manual for subsequent maintenance checks and services.

When a defective component is identified, we can develop a plan that determines the scope of work, time required for repairs, replacement or upgrade of parts, and an estimate of the cost to complete all tasks. Hydro Tech Inc. strives to ensure that all specifications are met while costs are kept to a minimum.

Hydro Tech Inc. assures quick and accurate vertical alignments. Most rotational alignments are completed within a 1-2 day period, including installation and removal of equipment. Our electronic equipment, measuring to 0.000029 inches per foot off plumb (verticality), ensures alignment to the highest degree of accuracy. The plumb of a generator/turbine can also be checked quickly with your generator fully assembled. Complete rotor and stator profiles and all measurements for stationary alignments can also be provided.

We install a variety of gates, both new and replacement, for sites across Canada and United States. Hydro Tech consistently achieves tight tolerances providing high quality assurance for all its installations. 

• Installation of lintels, gains, and sill beams for Intake, spill, stop log, and draft tube gates to within 0.5mm or better vertical and horizontal tolerances for all machined surfaces.

• Installation of trash racks in front of intake.

• Installation of hoists and super structures.
